WHO SPEAKS FOR EARTH
Notes & References
Introduction
35 Seconds of human history
4.543 billion years / 31,536,000 seconds per year = 144.06 years per second.
5,000 years of recorded civilization / 144.06 years per second = 34.71 seconds

Large Hadron Collider
Located at CERN, on the France–Switzerland border near Geneva. The LHC is the largest machine in the world with a superconductor ring 27 kilometers (17 mi.) in circumference. The LHC was completed in 2008 after ten years of construction with the collaboration of over 10,000 scientists and more than 100 countries. In 2012 the existence of the Higgs Boson, the missing particle in the standard model (the “God particle”) was finally confirmed at the LHC.

The Great Transition
A term used in the 2020 feature film, “InterReflections” by Peter Joseph. The Great Transition describes the third major transformation of humanity: First, the Neolithic Revolution (agriculture); Second,The Industrial Revolution (mechanization and automation); and Third, The Economic Revolution of the future; “I must say, it was [will be] quite the story.” –quote from the movie trailer

Culture in Decline
The declining position of the United States on the world stage is detailed in chapter 9. Kate Pickett and Richard Wilkinson, working together, spent over fifty person-years on their research culminating in 2009 with the formation of “The Equality Trust” and the publication of their landmark book, “The Spirit Level.” Also see “Culture in Decline” by Peter Joseph.

Self-Replicating Delusion
In his landmark book, “The Selfish Gene” (1976), Richard Dawkins introduced the “meme” as a self-replicating entity much like a gene. Whereas, a gene passes a physical characteristic from generation to generation, a meme passes intellectual information, such as the subtle meaning behind a pink bow or a slogan supporting a particular belief, from generation to generation. Through memes, delusion can be indelibly maintained even when it is contradicted by what is generally defined as reality.

Systems Disorder
The arguments and conclusions in this book stem from the science and technique of systems engineering. This problem solving approach is built on the theory that the methods of science are equally valid for social systems as well as the natural physical world from which they are derived.
